KOKSIJDE SAR MEET 2010
The 40th Helicopter Squadron of Koksijde, is responsible for "Search And Rescue" mission on Belgian territory, by sea and by land. The crew is at the disposal for a variety of missions, like evacuating injured people of a ship, looking for missing persons, supplying sandbags in case of floods, urgent transportation of burnt people to specialized medical centres and this 24 hours a day.
Neighbouring countries also fulfil similar missions, with their own methods. The idea of Koksijde SAR MEET is to invite the different nations in a professional competition, to promote the exchance of ideas and working methods.
The 2010 edition (17-21 May) has assembled a good half-dozen aircrafts from as many nationalities. It saw the participation of Belgium units (MK48 Seaking, Alouette III), Dutch (AB412), Spanish (SA330 Puma), Polish (MI8), Italian (HH3F Pelican), German (MK41 Seaking Marineflieger) and French (SA330 Puma Army Air Force). The British band, had to withdraw because of the Icelandic ash cloud. In the end, the French have won the first prize before the Germans.
